Behind the Design| Elevated Elegance at The Tinsmith
In mid January 2024, Trish reached out to OSO after meeting with Summer at FEST Paper & Design. At the time, Trish and Nick did not have a firm wedding date, nor did they have a venue or any creative partners contracted. Trish and Nick are big foodies and frequently dine at Michelin star restaurants around the world.
During my meeting with Trish, I discovered that they wanted to create an elevated experience for their guests, especially when it came to the celebratory meal. In addition, the meal had to be 100% vegan and multicourse. Sure, this was a challenge, but I was ready to dive in and do whatever I could to make their request a reality.
I immediately got to work and started the search for the perfect venue to host this elevated wedding event. With most of the premiere wedding venues booked out on the majority of Fridays and Saturdays for the 2024 season, we decided that a Sunday soirée would be best option.
Based on the developing concept of the stationery pieces created by Summer at FEST Paper & Design, I knew just the perfect spot to host this elevated event. The stationery pieces were centered around lush botanicals and the lakes that are so closely tied to Madison’s identity. Our color story would include a rich green, Michigan State University Spartan green to be exact, as well as a cool blue tone as a nod to the Isthmus City’s surrounding lakes, paired with crisp white and cream tones. Silver metallics provided shimmery accents and complemented the surroundings of our venue, The Tinsmith, very well. With it’s historic and industrial vibe and lovely solarium filled with an abundant variety of botanicals, I knew that it would be the perfect spot for our elevated Michelin star restaurant inspired experience.
With a venue in place and color story determined, I began my work on the design concept for Trish and Nick’s big day. When designing the dinner table, I rely on a number of textiles, textures, sheens and elements to work together. For our foundation, I chose a lush Spartan green velvet table linen. This serves as the canvas for all of the other elements. In contrast, I chose a Dupioni silk napkin in cobalt blue. This has a soft and smooth feel, as well as a high sheen, which contrasts with the dull sheen of the velvet.

Each place setting is anchored with a silver charger plate, along with Velo stainless steel flatware to each side of the charger plate. Delicate Forte stemware serves as the vessel for wine and champagne, with a blue Jupiter hobnail water glass providing another unique texture. Finally, a menu lies atop the charger plate, enticing guests with the dishes that will be served for each of the five courses, prepared by Chef Lauren and her team at the Vibrant Veg. Each course was beautifully presented and served on exquisite Sophia patterned China, featuring a silver rimmed Art Deco style border.
The meal was brought to a close with an elegant three tier vegan cake, prepared by Heirloom Bakery and Kitchen. The cake was adorned with the same blooms that were included in the bridal bouquet and the floral arrangements located throughout The Tinsmith.
Melody Rose Designs created beautiful arrangements to accompany numerous candles and votives in the center of the tables. Elevated floral sprays, bud vases with blooms and low profile arrangements in silver compote bowls adorned the tables in shades of white and cream. The same flowers were constructed into a pair of asymmetrical arches, which served as the backdrop for the wedding ceremony. In addition, beautiful floral arrangements lined the aisle and provided a pop of elegance.
Personal touches, like the FEST Paper & Design illustrated Signature Drink sign with a picture of Trish and Nick’s pet, a comfortable lounge seating area with furnishings in the color story provided by Velvet Rentals, childcare services provided by Care Bear Childcare and shuttle bus transportation complete with a gorgeous rainbow, helped to elevate the guests’ experience even more.
